Holograms on dropped items
Holograms on dropped items
Above each dropped item is displayed a text-hologram, which presents the name of the item and its quantity! This addon is compatible with all other addons. From now on, you can clearly identify dropped items from a distance without needing to inspect their textures!
List of Features
- Raycasting: Holograms are exclusively displayed for items within your line of sight! For instance, items obscured by blocks or hidden in grass will not display a hologram, preventing visual clutter.
- Two operational modes: You can choose to display holograms only on items within a certain radius, or exclusively on items pointed at by your crosshair.
- Editable hologram patterns: Feel free to customize text colors, add prefixes/postfixes, include your own text, and even supports multi-line displays!
- Fine-tuning: You can adjust the maximum display distance, limit the number of active holograms, change font sizes, and manage many other settings.
- Multiplayer support and universal compatibility: Works perfectly in multiplayer environments and is compatible with all other addons (no modification to player.json required).
- Multilingual support: Built-in support for multiple languages, and you can easily translate it into your own.
Installation Guide
Download the Behavior Pack (BP) and Resource Pack (RP), then apply both packs to your Minecraft world.
- Ensure "Beta APIs" experimental gameplay is enabled in your world settings.
- The addon is only supported on stable Minecraft releases (not beta or preview versions).
How to Use
Apply the addon to your world, and it is ready to go! The addon will start functioning immediately upon entering the world.
Note: Once the addon is applied, it only affects newly dropped items. Items dropped prior to the installation will not display holograms.
Raycasting: When an obstacle lies between the player and the item in a straight line, the hologram will be hidden. Multiplayer Support: This addon is fully compatible with multiplayer sessions.
Addon Configuration
Enter the command: /function itemsHolograms_config This will open the settings menu where you can adjust the following:
- Enable addon: Toggle the addon on or off without leaving the world.
- Reduce hologram font size: If enabled, the text size will be smaller.
- Raycasting: If disabled, holograms will be visible even when items are hidden behind blocks or obstacles.
- Display logic: Choose between "Nearest items" or "Items the crosshair is aimed at".
In "Nearest items" mode: Holograms appear on objects within a set radius. With raycasting enabled, the system verifies item visibility first. Available options:
- Limit the number of closest items: Input any integer, default is 10. Enter 0 for unlimited (not recommended).
- Maximum display distance: Default is 12, with a recommended maximum of 50.
In "Crosshair" mode: Holograms are only displayed on items currently targeted by your crosshair. Raycasting does not apply here. Available options:
- Display for the first few seconds: If enabled, newly dropped items will briefly show a hologram even if not aimed at. It then disappears until you target the item.
Changing the Hologram Pattern
Enter the command: /function itemsHolograms_config and scroll to the bottom.
You can modify the pattern to your preference. The pattern is limited only by character count (max 100), so let your imagination run wild!
FAQ
Q: Does this addon work on Realms? A: Yes. Download your realm world, enable the required experiments in the local save, add the addon, and upload it back. If it still doesn't work, it may be a bug within Realms itself.
Q: In multiplayer, holograms are visible to all players even in "crosshair" mode! A: This is a known bug that cannot be fixed at this time.
Q: The addon is not working! A: Please perform the following steps:
- Ensure your Minecraft version is a "release" (not beta or preview) and matches the requirements.
- Confirm all experiments listed in the checklist above are enabled in your world settings. If hosted on a server, check the server control panel. If options are missing, download the world, import to local Minecraft to enable settings, and re-upload to the server.
- Ensure that only one version of this addon is active in both "Behavior Packs" and "Resource Packs", with no duplicates or previous versions. Conflicts will prevent the addon from functioning. This applies to server environments as well.
Q: The addon works locally but fails on the server! A: Follow the steps in the previous point. If you are using hosting services like Aternos, try toggling the experiment settings off and on again, as they sometimes fail to activate on the first attempt. Additionally, verify your host supports script execution (Beta APIs).
