Fresh Animations

Bring your Minecraft world to life, just like in the trailer

Fresh Animations is an ongoing project dedicated to completely revolutionizing the game's visual experience. Its core purpose is to break the stiff, robotic movement style of entities in both vanilla Minecraft and its mods. By completely overhauling the animations for default entities, we aim to give every creature a more dynamic, fluid, and convincing sense of life, greatly enhancing game immersion.

Core Prerequisites and Technical Requirements

To achieve these complex animation effects, this resource pack relies on specific rendering technologies. Loading the resource pack directly without installing the prerequisites will not work!

There are two ways to enable these features. Please choose one based on your game environment:

  1. Use OptiFine: This resource pack utilizes the "Custom Entity Models" (CEM) feature found in OptiFine.
  2. Use Mod Alternatives (Recommended): If you are not using OptiFine, or are using a Fabric/Sodium environment, you must install both of the following mods to achieve the same functionality:
    • Entity Model Features (EMF)
    • Entity Texture Features (ETF)

Troubleshooting Guide

If you notice that entities are not changing or are displaying abnormally after loading the resource pack, please follow these steps:

  • OptiFine Users: Please ensure this option is enabled: Video Settings > Quality > Custom Entity Models: ON
  • Fabric/Mod Users: EMF and ETF are the best compatible solutions. Please ensure both of these mods are correctly installed.

FAQ: If you encounter an issue that has already been answered here, please read the detailed explanations below carefully.

Frequently Asked Questions (Q&A)

Is this a Mod or a Datapack?

It is neither. Fresh Animations is, by nature, a Resource Pack. However, as mentioned above, it strictly relies on OptiFine's features or the EMF/ETF mods as the necessary backend support to run.

Can I use it without installing OptiFine?

Yes, but you must look for alternatives. The core function of this resource pack relies on "Custom Entity Models" (CEM) and its animation features. Besides OptiFine, I strongly recommend using Entity Model Features (EMF) in combination with Entity Texture Features (ETF). This generally offers better compatibility in non-OptiFine environments.

When is the next update?

When I am satisfied with the new content. This is a passion project, so please do not rush the release date. For players who wish to experience the content early, Golem-tier Ko-fi supporters can get early access.

Why do some entities have all-white eyes and no new animations after loading the pack?

This "white eye" phenomenon usually means that the required mods are not working or there is a mod conflict. Please troubleshoot according to the following scenarios:

  • When using OptiFine: Please verify that OptiFine is installed correctly and that you have set Custom Entity Models to ON in the settings.
  • When using EMF & ETF: This is most likely caused by a mod or resource pack conflict.
    1. First, try enabling only EMF, ETF, and this resource pack to rule out interference.
    2. If the problem persists, try resetting the EMF configuration file.
    3. If the problem is solved, re-enable your other mods one by one to identify the source of the conflict.
  • Third-party Clients: Some optimization features included in certain third-party launchers may also cause this issue.

Is Fresh Animations compatible with "X other resource pack"?

It is hard to be fully compatible.

  • If the other resource pack only modifies textures, they can usually coexist.
  • If the other resource pack also modifies entity models, there will be a conflict (it will overwrite the animations and models from this pack).
  • If you encounter issues when forced to use them together, check if there are any community-made compatibility patches; these can usually be found on CurseForge or Modrinth.

Is Fresh Animations compatible with "X mod"?

Some mods do have compatibility issues. My Discord server maintains a list of known conflicting mods and has a dedicated help channel for feedback and resolving mod conflicts. If you discover a new conflict, please feel free to report it.

Can you add player animations?

I have already started developing a Player Add-on for Fresh Animations. Currently, this add-on is still in development and is provided as a benefit to Golem-tier Ko-fi supporters. Please note that since OptiFine does not support custom player models, this add-on must be used in conjunction with EMF & ETF.

Why doesn't "this entity" have an animation? Can you add it?

Not all entities have been completed yet. New creature animations will be added gradually with major version updates. I work at my own pace and put a lot of effort into every frame, so please understand and avoid frequently requesting specific animations.

Can you make a Bedrock port?

It is not just a simple "port." To create a version that works with Bedrock's mechanics, I would have to remake everything from scratch, and the final result would be completely different. Therefore, I have no plans to make a Bedrock version at the moment.

Why do some entities appear with purple/black missing textures?

This is a known OptiFine bug that sometimes occurs when loading a resource pack. The solution is simple: Close the game entirely and restart to fix it.

The game says this resource pack is made for a different version of Minecraft; which one should I download?

Please ignore the version warning in the game. As long as you have installed the correct version of OptiFine or EMF/ETF for your game version, any version of this resource pack will work fine on most versions marked as supported (as shown on the CurseForge/Modrinth page).
