Torturable Healthbars
This resource pack introduces vanilla-style health indicators directly on mobs, allowing you to gauge their health condition at a glance. Please note that this pack requires either Optifine or ETF+EMF to function correctly.
Description of the Pack
This resource pack dynamically alters the textures of hostile mobs based on their current health, with plans to expand further to neutral and passive entities (the latter can be toggled off via Respackopts). With over 500 new variants, it provides an immersive way to track your progress in combat.
I developed this pack because standard floating health bars, while useful, often disrupt the game's aesthetic. This approach allows you to estimate exactly how many hits are needed to defeat an enemy without breaking immersion. For instance, I have coded the zombies to display specific damage textures that correspond to each wooden sword swing.
Some mobs also feature animated blood effects for added visual depth. Furthermore, the pack enhances PvP utility by displaying chipped textures on armor and shields, features which can be disabled using the Respackopts mod if you prefer a cleaner look.
Variations and Addons
A specialized version of this project is available that supports Fresh's Animations.
This pack utilizes Respackopts to provide extensive configuration options. This includes popular community-suggested addons like Green Bleed (suggested by The Great Magispeller) and Ills Kills (suggested by MorrisHD), as well as built-in features like Humanoids and Pacifics, which apply these textures to villagers and passive mobs.
Known Issues
- Torturable Healthbars is incompatible with the Epic Combat mod; this is a limitation of that mod, and I am unable to address it at this time.
- Many mobs still lack full compatibility. The top of the page features a list of these missing mobs, highlighted with yellow and black "safety" tape.
Planned Features
- Implement compatibility for all remaining mobs.
How About Bedrock Edition?
For Bedrock Edition users, a talented creator named Akazq has ported this pack from Java, and it can be found through available resources.
Dependencies
The pack is designed for versions 1.21.5 and beyond. If you are playing on a version prior to 1.21.5, you can still utilize version 2.3. While the core functionality remains, perfect performance for all entities is not guaranteed. I am continuously striving to make the pack as compatible as possible across various game versions.
