About This Project

Complementary Shaders is a shader pack designed for Minecraft Java Edition that represents the ultimate pursuit of detail, high-standard visual presentation, and top-tier performance optimization. This pack not only provides a vast array of high-quality visual effects but also includes two default visual styles and custom effects for almost every block in the game. Whether you have an entry-level "potato" PC or a high-end "beast," the various profiles ranging from Low to Extreme will meet your needs, all while staying true to the design philosophy of never interfering with gameplay.

This project began in 2018 as a modification of BSL Shaders and has gone through countless major updates—including a complete rewrite to meet the high standards of the community. Complementary Shaders promises to always put user feedback first, using it as the core driving force for refinement, and continues to maintain a regular update schedule to this day.

"Unbound" is one of the two default styles included in the r5 version of Complementary Shaders. It is the less restricted style of the two, aimed at achieving a more realistic and grounded visual representation. Learn more about these two styles here.

Choose Your Style

Complementary Shaders offers two distinct visual styles for you to choose from. The only difference between them lies in their default settings. The "Unbound" style is designed for players seeking a more realistic experience, while the "Reimagined" style focuses on reconstructing Minecraft’s unique visual elements while keeping them intact.

Please note that no matter which style you download, you can fully customize it afterward. You can easily switch back to blocky clouds while using the "Unbound" style, or use realistic water effects while using the "Reimagined" style. All these adjustments can be easily found in the "Shader Settings" menu.

Installation Guide

New Feature: You can download the Complementary Installer and simply click install; the program will automatically handle all the steps below for you.

Manual Installation Steps:

- First, you need to install the Iris mod to enable shader support. - Next, launch the game and go to the "Shaderpacks/Shaders" menu within Video Settings. - Click the button in the menu to open the shaderpacks folder. - Download Complementary Shaders and place it into that folder. (Note: Do not unzip the file). - Return to the game and select Complementary from the shaderpacks menu. (If it does not appear in the list, please refresh the menu).
