Amethyst Shaders

Amethyst Shaders is a work-in-progress Minecraft shader pack designed to deliver a semi-realistic visual experience while maintaining a vibrant aesthetic. As an official project by the Amethyst Group, spearheaded by developer gamerbenyt, it is built upon the foundation of the acclaimed Complementary Reimagined.

Overview

Amethyst Shaders leverages the architecture of Complementary Reimagined and offers full support for both Distant Horizons and PBR (Physics-Based Rendering). Please note that currently, the pack is in a very early Alpha development stage, which means users may encounter various bugs or stability issues. If you experience any technical difficulties, kindly submit a ticket via the official Amethyst Shaders Support GitHub repository.

Modifications and Visual Tweaks

To achieve its distinct visual identity, the project incorporates the following specialized modifications:

  • Daytime Skies: The daytime sky now features a deeper, more pronounced blue hue.
  • Cloud Rendering: Clouds are rendered with a thick, lustrous outline, independent of default world outline settings.
  • Block Vibrancy: All blocks throughout the game have been tuned to exhibit more vibrant and saturated colors.
  • The Nether: The Nether environment displays higher contrast, with enhanced brightness for blue light sources, such as those found in Soul Sand Valleys.
  • The End: Beam effects (fog-like elements) have been brightened, the night sky features an increased density of stars, and the skybox has been adjusted to a brighter blue-purple tone.
  • Weather Effects: Rain now adds visible light rays to light-emitting blocks, such as Nether Portals.
  • Shadows: Pixelated shadow rendering is included within the default profile settings.

While the development team favors the Reimagined visual style, the pack also provides options for the Unbound visual style, consistent with the standard Complementary experience.

Important Notice

Although Amethyst Shaders is based on Complementary Reimagined, it does not receive direct updates from the base pack. Updates derived from Complementary Reimagined are strictly limited to necessary changes, such as license modifications, which occur quite infrequently. Users are reminded that they must adhere to both the original Complementary License and the specific Amethyst License.

Compatibility

Amethyst Shaders has been developed and stress-tested specifically for use with Iris. While Complementary Reimagined is compatible with Optifine—implying that Amethyst Shaders should theoretically function within the same environment—we cannot guarantee that every feature will operate correctly or be fully functional on Optifine. Given that the majority of modern users utilize Iris, we highly recommend that platform for an optimal experience.
