Since the Nether Update in 2020, which overhauled the Nether environment, the technical scale of the game has continued to expand. Subsequent updates, such as Caves & Cliffs, redesigned the Overworld terrain, introducing more spectacular mountains and caves. Minimum Requirements: 1080p, 30 FPS

The new minimum requirements target 1080p resolution at 30 FPS using the "Fast" preset:

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit, Windows on ARM, macOS 12 or higher, or 64-bit Linux
  • Architecture: x64 or ARM64
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM with a dedicated graphics card, or 12 GB RAM with integrated graphics
  • Processor: At least 4 physical cores, such as Intel Core i3-10100, AMD Ryzen 3 3100, Qualcomm Snapdragon X, or Apple M1
  • Graphics: Vulkan 1.3 support with at least 2 GB of VRAM. Official examples include NVIDIA GTX 950 or newer, AMD Radeon RX 460 or newer, Intel Arc A310 or newer, as well as platforms like Apple M1 and Qualcomm Snapdragon X

For integrated graphics, the official documentation also lists the Intel Core i5-6400 or newer as a reference. Dropping to 720p may yield higher frame rates, but in 2026, 720p can hardly be considered an ideal primary gaming resolution.

It is important to note that falling below the new minimum requirements does not mean the game will immediately fail to launch. Mojang states that some older devices may still run the Java Edition, but frame rates, visual quality, and loading speeds will no longer be guaranteed. As OpenGL is gradually replaced by Vulkan, some older graphics cards or integrated graphics may encounter launch failures or compatibility issues in the future.

If your current PC runs the Java Edition stably, you may not feel the changes immediately in the short term. However, for players planning to purchase a new computer or those frequently experiencing stuttering, slow loading, or graphical glitches, the new recommended requirements serve as a more reliable benchmark.

This increase in hardware requirements is not without reason. The Java Edition is inherently dependent on the processor and memory, especially in large save files where player-built cities, complex redstone contraptions, automated farms, and large modpacks continuously increase the system load. As the game incorporates more modern rendering technologies, Mojang eventually needed to redefine a hardware baseline that ensures a stable experience.
