5 Build Ideas to Try in the Minecraft Chaos Cubed Update

Chaos Cubed brings Sulfur Blocks, Cinnabar Blocks, Geysers, and the Sulfur Cube—a unique entity that adopts the physical properties of blocks it consumes—to Minecraft. While these may seem like simple new materials, they open up a wealth of creative possibilities for both fun and functional builds.

The following five concepts are perfect for multiplayer sessions with friends and offer fresh inspiration for map creators looking to implement new mechanics.

1) Ice Hockey Rink

If you want to build an interactive facility, an ice hockey rink is a fantastic choice. Start by paving the surface with Blue Ice and surrounding it with fences. Leave gaps at both ends for goals, using cobwebs to simulate the netting, and you have your basic frame.

Next, have a Sulfur Cube consume an ice block, turning it into a "puck" that slides across the ice surface. Players can take turns pushing it toward the opponent's goal for a unique game of hockey. For a more competitive edge, you can use swords enchanted with Knockback to propel the "puck," though be careful not to accidentally hit your teammates!

2) The Backrooms Maze

The "Backrooms" is a popular internet creepypasta setting: a series of dim, enclosed, and seemingly endless spaces where danger lurks around every corner. The color palette and texture of Sulfur Blocks are perfect for recreating this oppressive and eerie atmosphere.

When building, use Sulfur Blocks to construct walls, corridors, and rooms, utilizing repetitive layouts, narrow passages, and dim lighting to induce a sense of disorientation. Finally, populate the maze with various hostile mobs, forcing players to dodge threats while searching for an exit. For map makers, this is a theme with plenty of room for creativity.

3) Monorail Transport System

Minecarts have great transport potential in Minecraft, but traditional railways often require massive amounts of track, and their speed and cost aren't always ideal. By leveraging the new mechanics in Chaos Cubed, you can build a monorail transport system that is relatively simple in structure and visually distinct.

Inspired by creator SGWRPG, gather ice, Sulfur Cubes, leads, boats, and some external track structures. By combining these elements correctly, you can harness the movement properties of the cube to create a futuristic aerial monorail system. It’s perfect for connecting different areas of your base or serving as a transit facility for amusement parks or large-scale city maps.

4) Smooth Automatic Doors

Redstone and pistons have long been used for automatic doors, but traditional designs often come with loud mechanical noises and jerky opening/closing animations. For players aiming for a modern architectural style, this visual and auditory clunkiness is far from ideal.

Creator PrismBlock showcased a design for an automatic door using the Sulfur Cube. The door slides open much more smoothly to reveal the path ahead, reducing the stuttering and noise common with traditional piston doors. Whether for a high-tech base, a subway station, or a secret laboratory, these mechanisms significantly elevate the polish of your build.

5) Puzzle Rooms

Since Sulfur Cubes can be moved by players and take on different properties based on the blocks they consume, they are perfect as the core element of puzzle maps. Map makers can task players with moving a cube to a specific location to trigger doors, open pathways, or change the state of mechanisms in the room.

Furthermore, Geysers can also be integrated into level design. Players can use the upward force of the geyser to reach high places and traverse otherwise impassable terrain. Combined with pressure plates, hidden doors, and timed mechanisms, you can design layered, progressive challenges. As more players explore these new mechanics, Chaos Cubed is sure to inspire even more unexpected builds and gameplay styles.
