5 Alternative Uses for Cushions in Minecraft
Mojang has introduced Cushions in the Minecraft 26.3 snapshot. They can be crafted using three wool slabs of the same color, come in 16 different colors, and allow players to interact with them to sit down. Since this feature is still in the testing phase, the following methods may become obsolete in the future due to potential mechanic adjustments.
1) Building Rapid Transit Routes

Cushions are not just for furniture; they can also serve as short-distance transport tools. By placing multiple cushions in a straight line with a few blocks of spacing between them, you can sit on one and then interact with the next one ahead to instantly teleport your character to the target cushion.

Note that the target cushion cannot be too far away; it will not trigger if it exceeds the interaction range. As long as you connect the cushions into a route and continuously interact with the next one, you can move forward quite smoothly—in straight corridors, this can even feel more efficient than using minecarts.
2) Creating Colored Glowing Floors

By clipping cushions into Redstone lamps, you can create glowing floors with colored surfaces. To do this, place a cauldron, sneak, and place the cushion as close to the top half of the cauldron as possible. Then, break the cauldron and immediately replace it with a Redstone lamp in the same spot.

If your timing is fast enough, the cushion's texture will clip into the Redstone lamp model. Cover the rest of the lamp with solid blocks, leaving only the top visible, then connect a lever to power the lamp. The original cushion color will now appear to glow.
3) Hiding Cushions Inside Sofas

In the past, players often used stairs and trapdoors to build "decorative" sofas that only looked like they could be sat on. Now, cushions finally give these decorations actual interactive functionality.
Prepare two wool stairs, two shelves, two layers of snow, and two cushions. Place the snow layers on the ground and put the cushions on top. Quickly remove the snow and replace it with wool stairs to prevent the cushions from breaking due to lack of support. Once finished, the cushion will be hidden within the stair structure, looking like a regular wool sofa, but players can still sit down by interacting with the corresponding spot.
4) Placing Cushions Under the Bed

Beds were originally only for sleeping, with no way to sit on them. If you place a cushion under the top half of the bed, interacting with it will make your character appear to be sitting on the edge of the bed.
More interestingly, while sitting on the bed, you can still interact with the bottom half of the bed in front of you to go to sleep. This simple combination transforms the bed from a mere "night-skipping tool" into a piece of furniture that fits better into daily roleplay scenarios.
5) Making Bar Stools with Pistons

Cushions can also be combined with pistons to create high stools suitable for bar counters or dining areas. Place a piston underground and power it with a Redstone block to keep it extended, with the piston head protruding from the ground. Then, cover the piston base with a cushion and place another cushion on top of the piston head.
This creates a raised stool. Pair it with a table, counter, or kitchen decor to complete a more layered furniture set.
