Materials Needed to Craft a Cushion
Crafting a cushion does not require traveling to rare biomes or venturing into Ancient Cities. The core material is simply Wool Slabs of the same color.

Wool can be obtained from sheep in the Overworld using shears. Note that the final color of the cushion is determined entirely by the wool slabs used: using white wool slabs will result in a white cushion, and the same applies to other colors.
Cushion Crafting Recipe
Once you have prepared 3 wool slabs of the same color, open your crafting table and place them as follows:
- Place 3 wool slabs of the same color horizontally in any row of the crafting grid.
- The corresponding colored cushion will appear in the output slot on the right.
- Move the cushion into your inventory to use it.
How to Sit on a Cushion
After placing a cushion on a flat surface, interact with it to have your character sit down immediately. This mechanic finally gives chairs, benches, and sofas in Minecraft a true functional purpose rather than just serving as decoration.
To stand up, press the sneak key; the default key for Java Edition is Left Shift, while other platforms use their respective sneak controls.
Cushions can be placed on slabs, snow layers, enchanting tables, and most flat decorative blocks. You can combine them with stairs, signs, snow layers, and other blocks to create sofas, camping chairs, or patio seating.
Cushion Placement Rules
While versatile, cushions still have a few limitations:
- There must be a solid block underneath for support; if the supporting block disappears, the cushion will drop as an item.
- Cushions do not have collision volumes like most blocks, allowing them to be naturally layered with other decorations; however, they cannot overlap with another cushion.
- Cushions will always align horizontally to the block grid.
- Pistons cannot push cushions; if a piston attempts to push one, the cushion will be broken and dropped as an item.
It is worth noting that in the current preview version, cushions do not yet generate naturally in Abandoned Camps; players can obtain them via crafting or in Creative mode. Currently, Straw Beds can be found in Abandoned Camps.
