How to Make a Straw Bed in Minecraft
When exploring the Overworld on long journeys, players often have to choose between "resetting their spawn point" and "surviving the night filled with monsters and Phantoms." The Straw Bed, currently being tested in Minecraft 26.3, offers a more flexible solution for these scenarios: it allows players to sleep until morning without changing their existing spawn point.
What You Need to Make a Straw Bed
Straw Beds do not require wool, and the materials are quite easy to prepare:
| Item | Quantity | How to Obtain |
|---|---|---|
| Hay Bale | 3 | Craft with 9 Wheat, or find in villages |
| Crafting Table | 1 | Used for crafting |

When you have enough wheat, fill all the slots of a crafting grid with 9 wheat to obtain 1 Hay Bale. You can also frequently find Hay Bales near animal pens and stables in villages; simply break them by hand to collect them.
How to Craft a Straw Bed
Once you have the materials, open your crafting table and place 3 Hay Bales horizontally in any row. After crafting, 4 Straw Beds will appear in the output slot, which you can then take and carry with you.

Where to Find Naturally Generated Straw Beds
If you don't want to craft them yourself, keep an eye out for abandoned camps. Straw Beds generate naturally in these new structures, making them perfect for temporary supplies during wilderness exploration. When exploring new areas like the Dappled Forest, it is worth checking nearby abandoned camps along the way.

What Are Straw Beds Used For?
After placing a Straw Bed on the ground, interact with it during the night or a thunderstorm to skip the dangerous period, just like using a regular bed.

The difference is that a Straw Bed does not update your spawn point. Once you wake up, or if you leave the bed before morning, it will immediately break and disappear without dropping as an item. Therefore, each Straw Bed can only be used once, making them better suited as a disposable item for long-distance travel.
Villagers cannot use Straw Beds as regular beds. Additionally, attempting to use a Straw Bed in the Nether or the End will also cause it to be destroyed; do not treat it as a cross-dimensional safety sleeping bag.
When heading to rare biomes or exploring far from home, bringing a few Straw Beds will provide peace of mind. You can avoid the night without accidentally overwriting your spawn point at home.
Can a Straw Bed reset your spawn point?
No. A Straw Bed only allows players to skip the night; your original spawn point remains unchanged.
How many Straw Beds do you get from one craft?
Placing 3 Hay Bales horizontally into a crafting table will yield 4 Straw Beds.
Can a Straw Bed be reused?
No. An unused Straw Bed can be picked up, but once you have slept in it, it will break and disappear.
