The Five Major Announcements from Minecraft Live May 2026

Mojang Studios wrapped up the highly anticipated Minecraft Live May 2026 special event at TwitchCon in Rotterdam, Netherlands. This in-person celebration not only brought players the latest news on current game updates but also offered an early look at future development plans and brand-new game titles.

Here are the five major reveals from the live show.

1. Chaos Cubed Update Release Date Confirmed

During the presentation, Mojang officially announced the release date for the update named Chaos Cubed. The version will go live on June 16, 2026 — just a little over two weeks away.

The Chaos Cubed update is packed with content, introducing new environmental elements such as Brimstone blocks, Brimstone caves, Brimstone and Cinnabar raw blocks, Brimstone hot springs, and geysers. The most eye-catching highlight is the addition of the "Brimstone Block," a unique block that can alter its own physical properties by "consuming" surrounding blocks, adding significant tactical depth to gameplay.

2. A Look at the Next Update Phase

Hot on the heels of the Chaos Cubed news, Mojang also revealed details about a follow-up update planned for this fall. That version will focus on introducing a brand-new biome: the Dappled Forest.

Within the Dappled Forest, players will encounter distinctly shaped poplar trees whose leaves feature mottled shades of red, yellow, or orange, adding a touch of autumn color to the world. Additionally, a new small structure called the "Abandoned Camp" will appear, generating naturally in the Overworld. These camps are built primarily from a new type of wool stairs and come equipped with basic supplies such as a crafting table, barrels, and chests, making them excellent resupply points for exploring players.

3. Minecraft Dungeons 2 Creature Leak

Following the first reveal of the Minecraft Dungeons 2 development plan back in March, Mojang brought new surprises to the event — the Twisted Warden.

This creature is a mutated and enhanced version of the Warden. Unlike the Warden players know from the base game, the Twisted Warden possesses a massive torso with thick arms and legs, yet its head appears disproportionately small. Even more chilling is a large mouth filled with ferocious teeth that runs horizontally across the center of its chest — a stark contrast to the ordinary Warden's vertical mouth structure. Confronting this immensely imposing special mob in the new action-adventure title will push players’ combat strategies to unprecedented tests.

4. LEGO Minecraft: Chicken Mounts Add-On Released for Free

The event also showcased the results of a deep collaboration between Minecraft and LEGO: a free add-on developed specifically for Bedrock Edition — LEGO Minecraft Chicken Mounts.

Meticulously crafted by the Noxcrew team, the add-on features 15 distinct, rideable Overworld chickens, each with customizable outfits. These unique mounts boast extraordinary special abilities, such as walking on lava or gliding freely through the air, greatly enhancing player mobility and fun. In addition, the add-on introduces matching equipment like saddlebags, armor, and claws, along with a highly interactive chicken jousting mini-game that lets players experience a wide variety of movement options.

Regarding the closely watched Minecraft film series, Mojang announced the official title and cast of the sequel during the stream. The follow-up is titled A Minecraft Movie Squared (Minecraft: The Movie 2) and is scheduled to hit theaters on July 23, 2027.

During the promotional segment, lead actors Jack Black and Jason Momoa appeared on camera to share updates on the sequel’s filming progress. At the same time, the studio officially confirmed that Matt Berry and Kirsten Dunst will join the cast: Kirsten Dunst has been confirmed to portray Alex in the sequel, and regarding whether Matt Berry will step into the role of Steve, the studio dropped positive hints.
