The Popular Aether Mod Arrives on Minecraft Bedrock Marketplace, But Price Becomes the Biggest Hurdle
The beloved Aether mod has finally made its way to the Minecraft Bedrock Marketplace in the form of a DLC world. This content was created by the Bedrock creator team Spark Universe, known for previous works such as RealismCraft and Spark Pets.
Titled "Aether Legends," the DLC was developed in collaboration with the original Aether team. However, for players wishing to travel to this otherworldly realm floating among the clouds, there is a reality to face: it is a paid expansion with a significant price tag.
Aether Legends Joins Bedrock as a Standalone World

On July 14, Minecraft Marketplace and Spark Universe announced the official launch of Aether Legends. Rather than simply injecting a dimension into an existing save file, it creates a dedicated new world containing the complete Aether region.
It is important to note that this area cannot be added to existing worlds. According to official documentation, it is not procedurally generated in real-time like the Overworld, Nether, or End, but is instead a meticulously crafted 5000×5000 block pre-built map. Consequently, players must create a new world and enable the DLC to embark on this sky-island adventure. Official Minecraft Announcement

In terms of gameplay, Aether Legends continues the core mechanics of the original mod: players must build an Aether portal using glowstone and water to travel to the new dimension high above the clouds. The survival pace here is vastly different from the Overworld, requiring players to acquire new weapons and tools to battle enemies such as the Slider, the Valkyrie Queen, and the final boss, Karthuul.
With the original Aether team involved in the development, the DLC retains the design elements that made the Java Edition mod so popular, while Spark Universe has also added its own content and interpretations for the Bedrock experience. It is officially positioned as a reimagining of the classic Java mod brought to Bedrock. Official Minecraft Update

1690 Minecoins Price Tag Sparks Discussion
Aether Legends is priced at 1690 Minecoins on the Marketplace, which is approximately $9.99 USD, £9.99 GBP, or 950 INR. For players who have long awaited Aether content on Bedrock, this is undoubtedly an attractive expansion; however, it stands in stark contrast to the original Java Edition Aether mod, which has always been free to download and play.
Furthermore, since Minecraft Java and Bedrock editions are typically bundled together as a single PC license, many players already own the Java version. For them, whether they are willing to pay again for a Bedrock-exclusive reimagined DLC is clearly the most significant factor to weigh before purchasing.
From "Fake Portals" to a Classic Mod

The Aether is one of the oldest and most well-known mods in Minecraft Java Edition history. It first emerged in 2011 and quickly gained popularity due to the concept of a "new dimension in the sky."
Back then, many YouTube creators familiar with mod installation showcased the Aether world, leading many viewers to mistakenly believe it was part of the base game. As a result, players would excitedly arrange glowstone and pour water in their own worlds, only to find that the portal did nothing.
This widely shared "fake portal" experience actually helped make the Aether mod one of the most sought-after experiences for countless players. With its floating islands, fantastical creatures, and unique combat system, it remains highly popular to this day, having surpassed 74 million downloads on CurseForge alone.
