Description

Vampires Strike Back (VSB) is a hardcore Roguelite modpack that fundamentally alters Minecraft's progression. You must choose to play as either an outcast human striving to save the world or one of the final vampires seeking to dominate it.

You begin with randomized loot and must slay various Illagers to gain strength. Your primary goal is to reach the end before you run out of lives.

Key Gameplay Changes:

• Handcrafted Origins Ravage the world as a vicious Vampire with flight, dash, and ground-pound abilities; serve as the brave Hunter with a powerful whip and quick reflexes; or roam aimlessly as a humble Wanderer. The choice is yours.
• A Different Populace Monsters primarily spawn underground, while the surface is dominated by aggressive Illagers. The more you slay, the stronger the reinforcements that pursue you. Their structures are abundant and ripe for looting.
• Strategic Combat Mobs now react only to your line of sight. Master the backstab mechanic for extra damage and utilize Shield Expansion to perform rewarding parries. Plan your attacks carefully.
• Truncated Inventory You are limited to 9 inventory slots by default. You must earn and use Limitite to upgrade your storage space. Manage your inventory wisely by choosing what to keep and what to salvage into Scrap Metal for repairs. Max health starts low, so Heart Crystals are essential to your survival.
• Limited Lives You are granted only 10 lives. Upon death, you respawn in a new location, encouraging constant exploration. Your items are collected by a Spectral Servant, from whom you can purchase them back using Emeralds obtained in your previous life.
• Weapons O' Plenty Experience a massive variety of combat with Jaam's Weaponry. Swords allow for parrying, axes can be thrown, shovels provide chain-shoves, and Tridents enable air-combos. Experiment with Chakrams, Katanas, Cleavers, and Hammers looted from fallen Illagers, alongside unique trinkets.
• Spells Galore Utilize Iron's Spells & Spellbooks and Summoner Scrolls. Distract mobs with Summoned Bees and incinerate them with a Flamethrower spell. Experiment with numerous elements and spell combinations to defeat your foes.
• Custom Content The pack features exclusive reimaginings of Minecells' Grenadiers and Shieldbearers, humanized redesigns of Ghasts and Blazes, and mechanical tweaks to mobs from Cataclysm and Species. It also includes a custom-built tutorial dungeon for the Vampire by Calcyon.
• Unique Shaders Enjoy a unique visual identity powered by the pre-configured Complementary + Euphoria Shaders. For lower-end PCs, the more accessible Mellow Shaders are a great alternative.
• Highly Optimized With fewer than 200 carefully curated mods, this pack runs smoothly on most setups with only 6GB of RAM allocated.

Why?

1. Creating Something Unique: I wanted to explore the concept of playing as a "monster." By giving the Vampire numerous initial disadvantages, I turned the struggle into a rewarding progression system. The Human origin was added to facilitate faction-style multiplayer and offer a more casual experience.
2. Proving Mainstream Isn't King: This pack purposefully excludes commonly used mods like Quark, Supplementaries, and Create. This is a challenge to myself and a demonstration that you don't need "standard" heavy-hitters to create an excellent modpack.
