Sword Story Modpack Overview
Sword Story is a modpack designed to reshape the vanilla Minecraft survival experience. Its core design philosophy revolves around vanilla-style blade weaponry, elevating these weapons from simple combat tools into essential components that provide diverse functions, stat bonuses, and support for the combat system. The primary goal for players in this modpack is no longer just mining or building, but rather constructing a collection of blades through exploration, combat, and looting, and flexibly equipping them to suit various combat and production needs.
Core Gameplay and Equipment Mechanics
In the Sword Story system, blade weapons have a brand-new identity. Players can collect these weapons through various means such as defeating monsters, opening chests, or completing quests. Equipping them into specific slots activates corresponding attribute bonuses. The slot system covers the Main Hand, Off-Hand, Head, Chest, Legs, and Feet. This not only corresponds to the character model rendering for different parts but also grants each slot a unique functional utility:
The Main Hand is designated as the "Main Blade Slot," the player's primary combat output area. In this mode, players can perform parries. Main-hand attacks rely on a cooldown bar and support a charged attack via holding the button. The Off-Hand serves as the "Secondary Blade Slot," which is not limited by cooldowns and is suitable for auxiliary output; although it only deals 30% damage, it excels at finishing off enemies quickly. The Head slot becomes the "Flying Sword Slot," supporting the summoning of flying sword entities to assist in battle. The Chest and Leg slots correspond to the "Main Back Blade Slot" and "Secondary Back Blade Slot," respectively. These are no longer traditional armor pieces but shoulder the crucial task of providing defensive stats. The Feet slot becomes the "Sword Mastery Slot," allowing players to experience short bursts of flight, greatly enhancing mobility.
Regarding the attribute system, the modpack introduces a vast and detailed framework. These attributes are obtained through the combination of weapons in different slots and are systematically categorized into five groups: Basic Attack covers attack damage and attack speed; Basic Defense focuses on armor value; Additional Attack and Additional Defense are extremely rich, including leach probability, critical effects, maximum health, toughness, fire resistance, etc.; Support attributes focus on survival and movement, such as knockback resistance, water breathing, and armor penetration probability. For a detailed breakdown of the remaining attributes and their specific functions in combat, it is recommended to read the "Play Instructions" section in the in-game quest manual.
Combat System and Adjustments
This modpack has deeply revised and supplemented the vanilla combat logic. To highlight the strategic nature of sword combat, the system has directly disabled almost all vanilla armor, shields, ranged weapons, and potions, completely changing the player's defense and output logic.
The natural health regeneration mechanism has also been adjusted: when the hunger bar is above 5, the character will automatically regenerate health, and the hunger consumption curve has been significantly optimized. Combat operations have been greatly enhanced: the vanilla crit mechanism (jump-attack) has been removed and replaced by a drive based on various crit attributes; a parry function has been added, which grants immunity to damage for 0.5s after activation; if blocked successfully, it enters a short cooldown. A dodge mechanism allows players to move in specific directions, during which they are not only immune to damage but can also knock back targets they come into contact with. Furthermore, the introduction of double jumping has further enhanced combat mobility.
Weapon Tiers and Looting Mechanism
The weapon progression system is reflected in five tiers: Basic, Common, Rare, Epic, and Mythic. To allow players to intuitively identify them, weapons of different tiers in the inventory will display corresponding colored borders: no border for Basic, while Green, Blue, Orange, and Purple correspond to Common through Mythic respectively. The tier directly determines the upper limit of the basic attributes provided by the weapon, including attack power, attack distance, armor, and health bonuses.
The looting gameplay has also been innovated. Locked chests in the wilderness have become a key path for players to obtain powerful loot. Unlocking requires a "Diamond Lockpick" or the "Master Sword." Locks are divided into two types: Gilded Locks provide a guaranteed Common weapon and a chance for a Rare drop; "Diamond-Plated Locks" greatly increase the yield, guaranteeing at least a Rare weapon with a chance to produce Epic equipment.
Main Questlines and Deep Content
The modpack includes 8 independent main questlines and 1 hidden path. The rewards for completing each questline are top-tier blade weapons with maximum bonuses for corresponding attributes. Notably, there is no rigid sequence for these quests. Players can choose to advance through any questline based on their current combat needs, allowing them to build their own exclusive arsenal throughout the game for a highly free progression experience.
In terms of survival assistance, the modpack integrates features such as vein mining, quick villager trade refreshes, corpse retrieval, auto-fishing, and tree chopping, all aimed at improving the smoothness of the experience. Regarding environmental design, the modpack has selected "The Undergarden" and "Biomes O' Plenty" (or similar biome mods), and removed certain redundant biomes based on design aesthetics and survival comfort. For audio and immersion, through the fusion of mods like "Dynamic Surroundings," "Footsteps," and "Realistic Physical," an excellent auditory feedback loop is created. Simultaneously, to ensure performance, the creators have redrawn all textures to 32x32 resolution, enhancing detail while ensuring rendering efficiency.
Performance and Requirements
Thanks to the optimization of the mod library, this modpack is capable of smooth operation on mainstream PC configurations. According to actual test data, on a system equipped with an i7-13700KF and RTX 4070Ti, with 12GB of RAM allocated and running at 4K resolution: with shaders off, the frame rate remains stable at an average of over 400 FPS, with a minimum of no less than 80 FPS; with medium-configuration Photon 1.2a shaders enabled, the average frame rate is still maintained at over 130 FPS. It is recommended that players adjust settings according to their personal device performance.
To install this modpack, it is recommended to use the PCL2 launcher and deploy it through the modpack import function. Ensure a stable internet connection to finish downloading the necessary resources. When running, please ensure that the Java environment is configured to JDK 21 (21.0.7) to guarantee optimal mod compatibility.
