5 Minecraft Horror Mods for Fans of the Verity Mod

There are already quite a few mods inspired by Verity on the market, along with various projects featuring "Verity-style" creature designs. Ever since the YouTuber ThatMob released an ARG video centered around Verity, this "mod" and its monster have quickly gone viral. However, ThatMob clearly stated in the video description that this mod does not actually exist; the creature's effects in the video were created through extensive audio and video editing.

Because of this, some modders in the community began trying to recreate the "Verity feel." At the same time, many horror-themed Minecraft mods have introduced entities with similar styles. If you enjoy the eerie, oppressive, and interactive atmosphere of Verity, the following options are worth a try.

This article represents the author's personal opinions only.

1) Verity BE

Verity BE is arguably one of the earliest tributes to Verity. It is an add-on for the Bedrock Edition that appeared about 15 days after ThatMob's first video was released.

The content of this add-on is relatively basic, featuring an entity that is simply a sphere with a smiley face. You can talk to it via the in-game chat. Note that you must enable "Beta-APIs" in the experimental features when creating a new world, otherwise, this add-on will not function properly.

The biggest difference between this and the more "realistic" creature in the video is that its ability to respond is not accurate, nor is it particularly intelligent. The reason is simple: the entity in the video was actually voiced by a human and scripted in advance, rather than being a truly autonomous AI creature.

2) Verity - Bedrock Edition

If the previous one was an early attempt, then Verity - Bedrock Edition can be considered a more complete version for the Bedrock platform. It adds an entity that is much closer to the spirit of the original, which is why its download count is significantly higher than the former.

Some of the assets in this add-on, especially the monster's sounds, are taken directly from ThatMob's Verity video. Therefore, the mod author has explicitly credited the YouTuber and the corresponding video in the description.

In terms of behavior, this entity acts more like the one in the video: it will immediately attack other players who enter the world, but it remains friendly toward the original creator of the world. Because of this, it feels more "interactive," and its intelligence is closer to what people expect from Verity, which explains its higher popularity on CurseForge.

3) Verity JE

Java Edition players haven't been left out either. As the Verity topic gained traction, modders created Verity JE for the Java Edition.

This mod also adds a smiley-faced sphere that can communicate via the standard chat box. However, since it was developed for the Java Edition, the author included more configurable options, such as AI levels, different TTS voices, and various AI providers. In other words, you can adjust the entity to be gentler or more difficult, depending entirely on your preference.

Of course, it also retains the different stage transitions shown in ThatMob's video, ensuring the overall experience doesn't feel too thin. If you want a more flexible Verity-style experience in the Java Edition, this is a great choice.

4) The Mimicer

If you are disappointed with Verity alternatives and feel they aren't "authentic" enough, you might want to look at other horror mods that share the Verity vibe. The Mimicer is one of them.

Its backstory is quite interesting: Steve was once infected by an alien parasite, which gradually turned him into a monster similar to a "Dweller." Although the parasite has taken over Steve's body, his consciousness seems to remain trapped inside.

When this creature appears, it starts talking to you; it sounds more like Steve calling for help, struggling to express himself. However, the parasite's presence is too strong and too brutal, so it will eventually chase you relentlessly. That sense of horror—seeing a familiar character twisted—is exactly what makes this mod so compelling.

5) The Man From The Fog

In recent years, monsters like the Cave Dweller have been very popular in the horror Minecraft modding scene. Inspired by these classic Dweller creatures, M_Productions created The Man From The Fog.

This creature spawns in the world every night, or every other night. Once spawned, it usually doesn't rush at you immediately; instead, it observes you from a distance, stalking you, and slowly closing in when you aren't paying attention.

If you stare at it, it enters a binary state: it will either vanish or suddenly charge at you. Compared to the previous ones, its design is more basic, but the oppressive feeling of being "constantly watched from the shadows" is executed perfectly. In a sense, it can be seen as a more simplified and direct variant of The Mimicer.
