Cordyceps Addon
Created by XAIER
Overview
Inspired by The Last of Us, the world of Minecraft has been transformed by a devastating Cordyceps outbreak. Cities have collapsed into ruins, living creatures have become infected, and hordes now roam through the darkness. In this relentless post-apocalyptic adventure, only those who master survival will remain alive.
A portal to an apocalyptic universe has released the Cordyceps infection into Minecraft. The outbreak has destroyed the familiar world, forcing players to search for a way to survive among ruined cities, infected creatures, and dangerous structures.
Cordyceps Addon v13.2.1 is the largest update the project has received so far. It introduces new infected variants, massive hordes, terrifying Cordyceps nests, and fully explorable cities and structures inspired by The Last of Us. Stealth, strategy, and reliable sources of light are your most important tools, because infected creatures become especially dangerous in complete darkness.
1. Installation Guide
The Cordyceps Addon provides two versions of both its resource pack and behavior pack: Full and Lite. Their differences are listed below:
- Full Resource Pack: Includes every texture, sound, particle effect, and block variation.
- Lite Resource Pack: Keeps the essential sounds, removes some block variations so that each block uses only one texture, and greatly reduces custom particles. In certain cases, those particles are removed entirely.
- Full Behavior Pack: Provides the complete gameplay experience and preserves the maximum structure size. Cities, laboratories, and sewers become enormous, while sound events, infected types, and spawn probabilities operate according to the original settings.
- Lite Behavior Pack: Offers a reduced but still complete experience. All items, blocks, and entities remain available. The main changes affect structure size and certain atmosphere- or entity-related mechanics. For example, muzzle flashes and mob spawn frequency may be reduced. Giant structures are generally scaled down to half of their original size.
Which version should you install?
- For the complete experience, install both the Full Resource Pack and the Full Behavior Pack.
- If you want the complete gameplay systems while reducing the texture load on your device, combine the Full Behavior Pack with the Lite Resource Pack. This is the most balanced setup.
- If your device struggles with the addon, install both Lite packs to reduce loading and performance pressure.
How does multiplayer work?
In multiplayer, every player must use the same Behavior Pack. Otherwise, gameplay synchronization, entity behavior, and world loading may become unstable. The resource pack can be different for each player without affecting the shared gameplay.
It is also recommended that every player install the required packs on their own device before joining. Because the addon is large, loading everything at the same time may cause slow world entry, missing content, or loading errors.
2. Global Update v13: OUR BLOOD
After several years of development remaining on version 12, the Cordyceps Addon has received a major global update. This update is called OUR BLOOD, and its content revolves around the Cordyceps cult. The first chapter is titled SCARS OF THE DEEP.
The update was originally planned as a small improvement focused on the Seraphites, also known as the Scars, a faction from The Last of Us. As development continued, however, the project expanded to include every NPC, along with several complex new mechanics. The “Deep” in the title refers to the underground structures, which have been completely rebuilt after years of development.
The update includes:
- A major NPC overhaul: NPCs now have improved combat behavior, individual weapon types, and faction affiliations. Their dynamic models and textures have also been enhanced.
- Colossal cities: City structures have been continuously expanded and refined since 2023, resulting in larger environments and more varied exploration.
- Sewers v2: The sewers originally appeared in early versions of the addon, recognizable by their legendary concrete cave entrance. They have now been completely redesigned, expanded to dungeon scale, and filled with new lore and horrors hidden underground.
- Laboratory v2: The original underground section still exists, but players who follow the correct route can descend into enormous new chambers. These areas contain records of the disaster and are the only structures where crucial anti-Cordyceps items can be found.
- Seraphite Forest: Originally planned as a smaller addition alongside the Seraphite faction, this area has become a complete biome. It is a jungle variant filled with huge, tightly packed trees and dark forest floors. Whistles can often be heard throughout the region because the area contains Seraphite Camps, groups of cabins occupied by the faction.
- Improved weapons.
- New environmental and event sounds.
- New bosses.
- New infected types.
- A stealth system.
- Additional secrets hidden deep underground.
- Stronger infected creatures.
3. Basic Addon Guide
This guide is designed to help new players understand the core survival systems of the Cordyceps Addon. At the beginning of the game, you will spawn inside a bunker containing basic survival supplies. Before leaving, search the entire structure carefully, since extra items may be hidden in unexpected places.
The starting bunker and its loot can change with each global update, depending on the theme of that update. For that reason, the available items are not always identical.
What might you find in the bunker?
- Health Upgrade Pills: You can usually find two Level 1 health upgrade pills at the beginning. Using them increases your maximum health. More pills can be discovered in special structures, and certain bosses may also drop them.
- Throwable Items: These objects attract enemies and range from explosives to ordinary items such as bricks. Nail bombs are especially dangerous, so keep your distance after throwing one because they can instantly kill almost anything.
- Daggers: Daggers can instantly kill all “common” NPCs and infected creatures. They do not work on bosses, Muted creatures, Necrocordyceps, or enemies connected to special events.
Ghillie Suit and Stealth
The Ghillie suit allows you to enter stealth, but one of the following scenarios must be satisfied.
Scenario 1:
- Wear the Ghillie suit.
- Crouch.
- Stand in an area with a light level below 7.
Scenario 2:
- Wear the Ghillie suit.
- Crouch.
- Stay inside vegetation.
Vegetation does not include one-block flowers, dry leaves, Cordyceps blocks, or vines.
The stealth status appears in the left corner of the screen as ACTIVE or INACTIVE. Stealth points accumulate over time. When the bar reaches 5/5, stealth becomes locked until the value falls back to 0/5, preventing enemies from recognizing you during that period.
Keep the following rules in mind:
- Stealth points decrease randomly.
- Attacks that fail to kill instantly, including ordinary melee hits and weaker gunshots, immediately lock stealth.
- Snipers and certain rifles can perform instant kills, but each kill may randomly add 1 or 2 stealth points.
- Daggers are an effective way to eliminate enemies quietly while remaining in stealth.
Other starting supplies
- Firearms and Ammunition: Black briefcases, display cases, and similar blocks may contain weapons or ammunition.
- Can Opener and Canned Food: The main food sources in this world are canned food and venison, while animals are uncommon. Place the Can Opener in your main hand and interact with it to open cans in groups of 16. The Can Opener has 20 total uses.
- Anti-Spore Masks: These masks come in several designs, but all of them protect the player from spores produced by Spore Blocks. Keeping one equipped is strongly recommended. Antifungal Pills can also protect you from spores for a limited period of 20 minutes.
- Medicine: Antibiotics remove the Wither effect caused by spores. Bandages provide rapid regeneration, while Adrenaline and Coffee grant a speed effect.
- Trade Items: Sachets containing strange materials, cigarettes, and other miscellaneous objects can be used as currency with NPCs.
- Antifungal Bombs: Several Antifungal Bombs can be found in the bunker for experimentation. Throw them near infected creatures or Cordyceps Blocks to observe their effects.
- Radio: The Radio can play music and other audio. To turn it on, interact with it once so the antenna rises, then crouch and interact again to begin playing a song. While crouching, you can switch between tracks. Interacting while standing turns the Radio off. Avoid clicking too quickly, or the device may break. The Radio already includes non-copyrighted sounds; the optional Music Radio resource pack adds additional tracks.
- Turrets: Place a Turret and it will automatically attack nearby infected creatures. Turrets can be repaired with iron ingots and removed by hitting them. Their bullets do not damage players or other turrets.
The bunker regenerates whenever a new player joins the world. In version 13 and later, it also contains lore connected to other structures in the addon, so careful exploration may reveal useful clues.
After leaving the bunker
Outside the bunker lies the true post-apocalyptic world. During the first few days, Runners will be the most common threat on the surface. However, once you enter dark areas or Cordyceps nests, Clickers may already be waiting.
While exploring, you may encounter the following:
-
Throwable Items: Bricks, cans, and similar objects can inflict extreme slowness on infected creatures. When used during stealth, they also create a distraction, causing enemies to investigate the location where the object landed.
-
Stealth: Equip the Ghillie suit and crouch to become invisible. Be careful not to make noise, because blind infected creatures do not rely on sight. Throwable objects can be used to redirect enemies and create an escape route.
-
Daggers: The addon includes craftable Daggers and Ellie’s Dagger, which must be obtained through a trade with Ellie. Do not use them as ordinary melee weapons. Instead, approach an entity from stealth and interact with it to kill it instantly. A craftable Dagger has 3 uses, while Ellie’s Dagger has 20 uses and can be repaired on an anvil.
-
Cordyceps Nests: These fungal structures serve as sleeping grounds for infected hordes. Watch where you step. If you hear something collapse or crash, move away and observe before continuing.
-
Abandoned Cities: With the Full Behavior Pack, these cities become enormous and contain infected creatures as well as varied loot. Search the buildings carefully. Some contain trash and crafting materials, while others may hide substantial weapon arsenals. Because the amount of decoration is very high, players on low-resource devices should reduce render distance to limit lag.
-
Megastructures: Several colossal structures are scattered throughout the world, including the Capitol, King Rat’s Hospital, the school in Bill’s Town, and the Military Airport, where the addon’s greatest challenge awaits. These structures contain some of the best loot, but their danger levels vary greatly.
-
NPCs, Factions, and Bases: FEDRA, WOLF, civilians, and the Fireflies are generally neutral. NPCs carrying backpacks are merchants. Some exclusive items are extremely difficult to find elsewhere, including special saddles, vehicles, flamethrowers, and night-vision helmets. Continue trading whenever possible, since each NPC has randomly generated stock and levels.
-
The Last of Us Characters: Joel, Ellie, Bill, Tommy, and Abby are all included. Each character offers unique trades and may appear randomly alongside the Wandering Trader.
-
Hunter Patrols: These aggressive NPCs can appear randomly with the Wandering Trader in groups of five. If you kill the entire group, there is a chance to trigger a Hunter Assault consisting of four waves. Surviving the assault grants a substantial reward.
-
The Sewers: This large underground structure contains remnants, gunpowder deposits, and processed sulfur deep below the surface. If you need ammunition, you will eventually have to descend into the Sewers for gunpowder, which is required to craft many addon items.
-
Cordyceps Blocks: Pay close attention to the texture of each Cordyceps Block, since different types have different functions. Most of them can be burned and destroyed when an Antifungal Bomb detonates nearby.
-
Block Infection: The world contains a neutral infected entity called Tocon Cordyceps. It will not attack the player directly. Tocon Cordyceps has a low chance of spawning from Spore Blocks, which makes burning Spore Blocks an important preventive measure.
If Tocon Cordyceps appears, it attracts blind infected creatures, including Clickers and Bloaters, which will attack it. Every hit received by this entity generates Cordyceps Blocks on the ground. Among them may be the dangerous Tocon Tree, which can infect nearly any block in Minecraft. Dead Cordyceps Blocks and Reinforced Anti-Cordyceps Blocks are the main exceptions.
You must burn Tocon Cordyceps before other infected creatures reach it and kill it. Doing so prevents the infection from spreading and stops a local incident from becoming a full-scale apocalypse. Certain bosses use a similar mechanic.
-
Antifungal Bombs: The standard Antifungal Bomb destroys Cordyceps Blocks. The Compressed Antifungal Bomb is required to destroy the Spore Flower Block.
-
Spore Flower Event: The Spore Flower is a special event created through a chain of disasters. When Stalkers are killed, there is a chance for an indestructible Muted Block to appear. After some time, an egg grows from the block and hatches into a Muted Cordyceps.
When the Muted Cordyceps dies, it has a 50% chance to drop a Cordyceps Cleaner Block. This block generates a giant infected creature known as the Cleawer. Once the Cleawer dies, it plants the Spore Flower, a massive pillar that launches spores into the sky.
The Spore Flower creates Infection Blocks around itself, strengthens nearby infected creatures, and weakens players. The event can only be stopped by throwing a Compressed Antifungal Bomb at the upper section of the flower, where the spores are released.
-
Reinforced Anti-Cordyceps Block: These blocks are crafted using gunpowder, metal blocks, and processed sulfur. Processed sulfur can only be obtained deep inside the Sewers. Reinforced Anti-Cordyceps Blocks are useful for establishing safe zones, because Cordyceps Blocks remain at least four blocks away from them.
Crafting the block is not enough to activate its protection. You must hold the block and interact with the Anti-Cordyceps Core to activate it.
-
Laboratories: Laboratories are responsible for the existence of many unusual infected creatures, including the Muted and Necrocordyceps species. Necrocordyceps are especially common in these structures.
The laboratories function similarly to Trial Chambers. Corrupted Blocks are scattered across the floor, and touching them causes a Corrupted Totem linked to a particular infected creature to appear. If the related infected creature is killed near the totem, the totem drops exclusive laboratory loot.
Possible rewards include Anti-Cordyceps Core Fragments, a weapon created by scientists, or bodies used to construct an infected creature that functions as a flying vehicle. Do not kill the infected creature too far from its original spawn point, or the loot may not drop.
-
Anti-Cordyceps Core: This is the ultimate weapon against the fungus, crafted from fragments obtained in the Laboratories. It must be activated with Compressed Antifungal Bombs. Each activation destroys every Cordyceps Block within a 32×32 area and deals massive damage to infected creatures in the same region.
Once Dead Cordyceps Blocks are present, Cordyceps Blocks such as the Tocon Tree can no longer grow over them, allowing the area to become a dependable safe zone.
-
Anti-Cordyceps Cannons: The Laboratories contain testing areas with experimental weapons capable of dealing heavy damage to infected creatures. You will normally find a Cordyceps Beam Launcher Cannon beside two Chargers.
Interact with the Chargers to load the cannon. When the beam turns cyan, one charge level has been completed. After charging it twice, the cannon will fire beams at nearby infected creatures.
-
Craftable Anti-Cordyceps Cannon: This weapon requires an Anti-Cordyceps Cannon, a Charger, and an Active Reinforced Anti-Cordyceps Block. Cannon blocks and Chargers can only be obtained with an Anti-Cordyceps Key, which drops from the most powerful creature living inside the Laboratories.
-
Bunkers: Planned bunker structures are abandoned underground facilities. Once cleared, they can be used as secure homes because Reinforced Anti-Cordyceps Blocks surround them and prevent Block Infection from entering.
-
Seattle Hospital: This location is home to King Rat, a formidable enemy with two phases. Medical Kits appear frequently throughout the hospital, making it a good place to collect Bandages.
-
TLOU Amulet: This item attracts addon NPCs and causes them to follow the player.
-
Seraphite Forest: The Seraphite faction believes the world that existed before the apocalypse must be left completely behind. They mainly inhabit this region. Stay alert when entering their bases, because they contain some of the best melee weapons and can provide the Mace, a melee weapon that deals 30 points of damage.
-
Final Boss: The final boss of the addon is located at the Military Airport. Its name is Harvester Multi Infected Cordyceps.
The Cordyceps Addon is built around survival in a world where resources are scarce and infected creatures continue to evolve. The bunker provides your starting supplies, cities and megastructures offer valuable loot, and the Laboratories contain the technology needed to resist the outbreak. Nevertheless, light, stealth, and route planning are often more important than raw firepower. By combining Daggers, throwable items, medicine, Turrets, and Anti-Cordyceps technology, you can gradually create a truly secure area in a world that is constantly slipping further into chaos.
