What Is the Leviathan in Minecraft? YouTuber Wifies’ New Video Tells the Story of a Mysterious Creature
Recently, the mysterious creature known as the Leviathan has sparked considerable discussion among the Minecraft community. YouTuber Wifies released a fictional documentary-style video titled The Search For The Leviathan, which tells the story of a gigantic sea monster that may exist in certain worlds.
The Leviathan is not a real creature in vanilla Minecraft. However, through the investigation presented in the video, Wifies connects this mythical creature to the game’s ocean biomes, creating a story filled with unanswered questions.
Minecraft Leviathan in Wifies’ Video
The Leviathan is a mythical giant sea serpent that appears in various ancient texts, with the most famous account found in the Hebrew Bible. It usually symbolizes a powerful enemy or an embodiment of chaos, and is sometimes regarded as a demon.
Because the Leviathan is often depicted as an enormous sea serpent, Minecraft’s vast ocean biomes provided the inspiration for Wifies’ video The Search For The Leviathan.
The video uses a fictional documentary-style narrative centered on an investigation into a mysterious sea monster in the game. Many players claimed to have seen the Leviathan in specific worlds, so Wifies attempted to determine whether the creature was an elaborate hoax created by players, a game bug, or something that genuinely existed in certain worlds.
At the beginning of the video, Wifies compiled multiple sighting reports from across the internet, most of them from Reddit. Many players claimed to have discovered unusually deep ocean biomes in worlds near coordinates X: 20,000 and Z: 20,000. However, most of these posts were later explained as cases of mistaken identity, with players likely having seen ordinary creatures such as Guardians or Drowned.
To verify these claims, Wifies created multiple worlds and attempted to find seeds capable of generating unusually deep oceans.
He later showed a Minecraft: Java Edition bug report related to deep-ocean generation, identified as “MC-373144,” which even included a reply from a Mojang developer. However, this bug report was actually part of the video’s fictional narrative. Real-world bug reports were still numbered in the 31,000 range at the time, making “MC-373144” an important clue left by the video and further demonstrating that the entire work was fictional.
Later, Wifies contacted a player named Hummer5718. Hummer claimed to have been researching the Leviathan for more than six months and gave Wifies access to a private server and related research materials. However, Hummer appeared to have another motive. What he really wanted was to test whether Wifies would keep going in his search for the truth.
Hummer first asked Wifies to disable parts of the F3 debug screen while keeping entity-tracking features enabled, and to carry a tropical fish with him. He then used a redstone contraption to send Wifies hundreds of blocks underwater, where Wifies explored the ocean floor in Survival mode.
During the exploration, however, Hummer deliberately pulled the contraption out of the water, eventually causing Wifies to drown. He hoped that the Leviathan would appear at the end of the video.
Hummer believed that the creature would appear only when players truly believed in the Leviathan’s existence and searched for it alone without relying on Minecraft’s assistive information. This idea also became an important clue in the video’s later events.
Hummer and Wifies then traveled to a server operated by another investigator named Arronax. Arronax firmly insisted that the Leviathan did not exist, but he had actually built a secret base and was continuing to search for the monster in secret.
As the investigation continued, the video’s plot became increasingly strange. Wifies visited several servers dedicated to searching for the Leviathan, and some players even attempted to summon it through ritual-like methods, but none of their efforts produced results.
Finally, Hummer and Wifies once again set out on an expedition in a redstone-powered submarine, deliberately allowing themselves to sink to the ocean floor. They hoped this would help them find the Leviathan. Hummer died in the game and never returned, while Wifies was sent into a mysterious realm.
At the end of the video, Wifies entered a vast and unfamiliar space. A massive structure stood at the center of the realm, and a chest inside the structure contained a Heart of the Sea.
After finding the Heart of the Sea, Wifies’ character appeared to lose consciousness. In the final scene, he wrote an email to Hummer. Hummer had died on a Minecraft server dedicated to searching for the Leviathan and never returned to the game afterward.
As for what the Leviathan really is, the video provides no definitive answer. Wifies also stated that he would continue searching for this mysterious mythical creature in the future.
