Minecraft Creators Criticize Technolarp: Controversy Over Impersonating Late Friend
As the "Larptuber" trend continues to gain momentum, several Minecraft creators have publicly questioned Technolarp—a channel owner whose content centers on impersonating the late creator Technoblade.
Technolarp’s channel draws clear inspiration from Technoblade in terms of voice, humor, Minecraft skin, and video style, and has even used the tagline "his spirit is back." He also streams on the LarpSMP server, where participants roleplay as well-known content creators.
Members of LarpSMP state that the project's goal is not to replace the original creators, but rather to recreate the atmosphere of early Minecraft streams and the Dream SMP. However, Technoblade’s passing from cancer in 2022 has brought Technolarp’s actions under much harsher scrutiny.
Technoblade’s father, Technodad, recently confirmed that Technolarp had contacted him multiple times, hoping to get his thoughts. Technodad stated that he had previously refrained from responding because he did not know how to handle the situation; the eventual response he provided remained inconclusive.

Tubbo: This Trend "Feels Wrong"
Speaking on X about the broader Larptuber trend, Tubbo mentioned that he wasn't sure if he liked the model, noting that it felt "a bit wrong."
Streamer Sneegsnag subsequently questioned whether what Tubbo disliked was the fact that someone was impersonating their late friend. Tubbo agreed with this sentiment.
Minecraft event organizer and YouTuber Noah, also known as Pikaclicks, similarly criticized Technolarp. He argued that building an entire online persona on the imitation of a creator who passed away from cancer is unacceptable; even the channel's pledge to donate half of its revenue does not alleviate his concerns.

In subsequent comments, Noah further pointed out that Technoblade’s legacy is not something for Technolarp to continue, criticizing the practice as borrowing an identity that can no longer speak for itself.
Hypixel co-founder Simon Collins-Laflamme also expressed his opposition. He believes that Technodad has been pushed into an almost impossible situation: if Technodad were to demand the channel be taken down, he might be viewed as the villain by Technolarp’s supporters; yet if he does not, the controversy will persist. For Technodad, it is a no-win situation.

Technolarp has denied any intention to replace Technoblade, defining himself as an intentional "impersonator" and claiming that the original intent was simply to entertain the audience.
However, the responses from Tubbo, Sneegsnag, Noah, and Simon indicate that for many in the Minecraft community, impersonating the late Technoblade is not the same as the impersonation accounts of other living creators within the Larptuber trend.
