Recently, a mod called "Verity" has garnered significant attention within the Minecraft community. At its core is a smiley-faced, omniscient creature that, over time, reveals a sinister and malevolent nature. This concept is primarily the result of an ARG (Alternate Reality Game) initiated by the YouTuber ThatMob. However, the truth is surprising: this mod does not exist in the real internet. It is purely a narrative vehicle built around a fictional story.
Below is the detailed backstory of the Verity Minecraft mod, covering the main plot and related derivative content.

The Complete Backstory of the Verity Minecraft Mod

The first video in ThatMob's Verity mod series begins with the premise that the creator received the mod from an anonymous source. The mod contains an entity known as Verity.
In the video, ThatMob enters an older version of a Minecraft save file, one that predates the hunger bar mechanic. Within this save, the entity spawns inside a cardboard box near the player. Once the box is opened, the creature hops out onto the ground.
Initially, the entity appears as a smiley-faced ball that responds to the player's voice, capable of answering almost any question about both the game and the real world. The creator keeps it in his inventory, asking various questions such as the location of villages and weather forecasts.
When asked about villages, the creature warns the player not to visit empty villages. When discussing this empty village, the entity's tone shifts significantly, revealing an unsettling and eerie quality.

At first, the creature seems cheerful and friendly. However, after a few in-game days, Verity's facial expression shifts into a malevolent grin with sharp teeth. One morning, it issues a strange warning that "danger will occur in three days." Subsequently, the player encounters more bizarre events: the entity is able to open in-game doors on its own and plays a loud alarm sound, claiming it is the "roar of the night," as a way to warn the creator in advance.
At the end of the video, ThatMob attempts to flee his home and lock the smiley ball inside. However, when he reaches a new watchtower, the entity appears in a completely new form. Verity reveals its true self—a terrifying creature with a long body, arms, and legs. As the player calls out its name, the entity immediately begins a pursuit, and the video ends.
Part Two: The Evolution of the Verity Mod Backstory

Two weeks later, ThatMob uploaded a sequel. In the video, the beast is in hot pursuit, and the creator runs desperately, trying to return to his original shelter. He seals off the ground floor and hides on the second floor, where he had previously imprisoned the entity.
Chillingly, the smiley ball remains upstairs, while a monster resembling a "Cave Dweller" searches for him downstairs. This creates the illusion for the audience that these are two entirely different entities.
The first half of the video is relatively calm, with ThatMob continuing to interact with the smiley ball and asking questions about the Minecraft world. The most unusual incident occurs when the creator accidentally drops Verity into a lava trap; unexpectedly, the entity teleports to safety and displays clear anger toward the player.

Subsequently, ThatMob contacts his friend Twixxel, speculating that the smiley ball might be the "Cave Dweller." After Twixxel joins the server, the two attempt to secretly discuss how to eliminate the entity. However, Verity proves to be highly intelligent, eavesdropping and sensing that something is wrong.
While ThatMob tries to distract the smiley ball, Twixxel goes off alone to find clues on how to combat the entity. Unfortunately, when Twixxel returns, the creature reveals its true form in the darkness and kills him. After ThatMob discovers the truth, the entity states that the world only needs the two of them.
Finally, ThatMob travels east, entering the empty, abandoned village that the creature had warned him never to visit. There, he discovers an underground chamber left behind by Twixxel, which contains research on the creature.

In a mysterious chest within the chamber, the creator finds a book. It states that the entity existed before the birth of Minecraft and that it attempts to stop every player who enters the game. Furthermore, because the mod does not actually exist in the game files, it cannot be permanently destroyed through any conventional in-game means.
The book contains 31 pages in total, with a mysterious code left at the end. The meaning of this code will be revealed in the third part of the Verity Minecraft mod story.
The Verity mod is essentially a Minecraft lore-building project (ARG) orchestrated by ThatMob. Although there is no real horror mod available for download, community fans have already created various alternative mods to bring this eerie entity into the game.
