Minecraft "Chaos Block" Update Guide: Comprehensive Analysis of New Features and Acquisition Strategy

The highly anticipated Minecraft "Chaos Cubed" update was officially released on June 16, 2026. After months of refinement and testing, this version is now available to all players as a stable release.

In this update, Mojang fully embraced the sandbox nature of the game by introducing a new mob called the "Sulfur Cube." This creature can alter its physical properties by consuming blocks. Additionally, the game has received a series of new world generation features and building blocks.

Below are all the core details regarding the "Chaos Cubed" update.

The Sulfur Cube is a brand-new passive cube-shaped mob added in this update. They spawn exclusively within "Sulfur Caves," which are found in the underground cave systems of the Overworld.

This mob possesses a unique ability: after consuming any block, it changes its elasticity, weight, and friction based on the material of the consumed block. Once it has consumed a block, it enters a stationary state, during which players can strike it to push it around.

Sulfur Cubes exhibit various morphological characteristics depending on the blocks they consume:

  • Bouncy, Explosive, Flat-Fast, Sliding-Fast, High-Resistance, High-Temperature, Lightweight, Flat-Slow, Sliding-Slow, Sticky, and Regular.

Furthermore, if players wish to breed them, they simply need to kill a large Sulfur Cube; it will split into two smaller individuals, which will then grow into normal-sized Sulfur Cubes.

As the highlight of this update, the Sulfur Cave is the fourth cave biome added to Minecraft. This area generates randomly within the Overworld's cave systems, sharing the same depth distribution as Lush Caves and Dripstone Caves. Compared to existing cave biomes, the structure of Sulfur Caves is more fragmented and has a higher distribution density.

Technically speaking, this biome tends to generate in areas with low "weirdness values," meaning it often connects to surface mountains or plateaus. The entire cave is filled with Sulfur and Cinnabar blocks, and the sulfur pools scattered throughout emit toxic gases, inflicting the "Nausea" effect on exploring players.

Sulfur Spring

To help players locate Sulfur Caves, Mojang has added a new landmark structure on the surface called the "Sulfur Spring." This feature generates on the surface above Sulfur Caves and varies in scale. Its interior contains only Sulfur Blocks, Powerful Sulfur Blocks, and Magma Blocks.

When a Magma Block is located directly beneath a Powerful Sulfur Block, it triggers a phenomenon similar to real-world geothermal geysers: it periodically erupts with high-reaching air currents. Any entity or item standing on the spring will be propelled into the air by this force.

Sulfur and Cinnabar Blocks

Sulfur and Cinnabar ores collected in Sulfur Caves can be processed into a variety of new building materials. Sulfur blocks feature a bright yellow hue, while Cinnabar blocks boast a highly saturated brick-red color.

The list of specific building blocks introduced in this update is as follows:

  • Sulfur Series: Block, Slab, Stairs, Wall, Polished Block, Polished Slab, Polished Stairs, Polished Wall, Bricks, Brick Slab, Brick Stairs, Brick Wall, Chiseled Block.
  • Cinnabar Series: Block, Slab, Stairs, Wall, Polished Block, Polished Slab, Polished Stairs, Polished Wall, Bricks, Brick Slab, Brick Stairs, Brick Wall, Chiseled Block.

"Bounce" Music Disc

This update adds a rare new music disc titled "Bounce." Its style blends Lo-fi Hip Hop with jazz instrumentation, providing a soothing listening experience during gameplay. This disc can currently only be found in chests within abandoned mineshafts located inside Sulfur Caves, making its high acquisition difficulty one of the rarest in the game.

Finally, the Java Edition of Minecraft has introduced a new "Friends List" system in this update. Players can connect with friends in-game by sending or accepting friend requests.

Although this feature is currently in its early development stages and does not yet fully support peer-to-peer multiplayer world functionality, Mojang has clearly stated that this is the first phase of a large-scale multiplayer update. Players can now find the "Friends List" button in the main menu and pause menu to quickly check friend status and manage friend requests.
