Minecraft Speedrunner Finally Sets a World Record One Year After a Devastating Mistake
Minecraft speedrunner Skycrab completed the game in 6:39.813 in-game time, setting a world record in the random seed category. A year ago, he was killed by an Enderman with only a few seconds left before the finish, missing out on an even faster time.
This challenge took place in the Minecraft Java Edition 1.16.1 Any% Glitchless Random Seed category. Runners must start in a completely unfamiliar new world, gather resources, enter the Nether, find the Stronghold, defeat the Ender Dragon, and finally enter the exit portal to complete the game as quickly as possible.
Skycrab’s 6:39.813 was 10.546 seconds faster than the 6:50.359 previously set by lowkey. lowkey’s time had held the top spot on the Speedrun.com leaderboard for more than a year.
An Enderman Once Kept Skycrab From a 6:17 Finish
For Skycrab, this run ended more than three years of pursuit and made up for one of the most heartbreaking mistakes in Minecraft speedrunning history.
In June 2025, he made extremely rapid progress in The End and killed the Ender Dragon at 5:59. Based on his pace at the time, the run was expected to finish at around 6:17—more than 40 seconds faster than the world record then.
However, Skycrab had only half a heart remaining. As he fell toward the exit portal, an Enderman suddenly teleported behind him and killed him just as the portal was about to finish opening and stop the timer.
Because Skycrab did not officially complete the game, the run could not count as a record. All that remained was the footage of the 6:17 mistake rather than a new world record.
A year later, there was no Enderman waiting at the finish. Skycrab safely entered the portal, and after realizing that his 6:39 time had finally taken the top spot, he immediately began celebrating.
“6:39 WORLD RECORD after exactly one year of the 6:17 mistake. It’s over. No Enderman this time,” he wrote on X.
Skycrab said that he had spent more than three years chasing this record, and described the run in the video’s description as “the achievement I’ll always be most proud of.”
